
A fire broke out in a duplex in New Orleans East, displacing ten people yesterday morning. According to the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD), the blaze was reported at 4503 Bonita St. at 10:40 a.m., with initial concerns of possible persons trapped inside.
NOFD firefighters arrived six minutes later at the scene of the single-story structure, finding that an adult male from 4503 Bonita St. and an elderly female from 4501 Bonita St. had fortunately managed to escape unharmed before the responders' arrival. Searches confirmed that all residents had evacuated, as crews attacked the fire originating near the front door of 4503 Bonita St. The common attic exacerbated the spread to the adjacent apartment.
The fire was brought under control by 11:03 a.m., with six NOFD units and twenty Fire Operations personnel responding. The American Red Cross stepped in to assist the affected residents, which included two adults from 4501 Bonita and a family of four adults and four children from 4503 Bonita. No injuries were reported in the incident, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
