The Tennessee Volunteers baseball team continues its impressive and untarnished run this season, clinching its first SEC game against the Florida Gators with a 5-3 victory, thereby preserving its status as the only undefeated Division I team in the nation, per WVLT-TV.
In a game that seemed to balance on a knife edge, a crucial three-run fifth inning had the Lindsey Nelson Stadium crowd on their feet, Hunter Ensley doubled driving in two runs and Gavin Kilen scored on a wild pitch which shifted the momentum in Tennessee's favor, setting the stage for Ensley, who "doubled to right field to bring home two runners and take a 3-1 lead," as reported by Knox News.
Dean Curley's performance stood out with two runs from just four at-bats, including a pivotal triple during the sixth inning. Knoxville's UTSports highlighted Curley as the only UT player with multiple hits in the game. The Vols' starting pitcher, Liam Doyle, evidently showed up Florida's ace Liam Peterson, with Doyle striking out six batters over 4.2 innings versus Peterson's final tally before being pulled in the fifth.
Looking ahead, the Vols are inching closer to extending their winning streak as they host Florida for the series' second game, which has been rescheduled to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday due to stormy weather forecasted in the region, according to UTSports.
