Texas has once again topped the charts when it comes to job creation, outstripping all other states in the addition of new jobs over the past year. Governor Greg Abbott has formally celebrated this achievement, highlighting the state's robust economy and the measures his administration has taken to maintain a business-friendly environment. According to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, reported by the Office of the Texas Governor, Texas added a significant 27,900 nonfarm jobs in January, and a total of 187,700 from January 2024 to January 2025. This growth, Abbott claims, is due, in part, to the state's commitment to slashing regulatory red tape and investing in varied sectors including education, innovation, and infrastructure.
The Governor also took this opportunity to quickly remind the public of the launch of his Small Business Freedom Council and his declaration of career training as an emergency item this legislative session. He aims to continue to strategically position Texas as a magnet for diverse industries seeking out a skilled and ever-expanding workforce. In the words of Governor Abbott, "Texas is America’s jobs engine, adding more new jobs in the last year than any other state," a statement which the Governor's Office highlighted following the release of the recent employment data.
Alongside these impressive job growth figures, on Friday, Governor Abbott proudly announced Texas has surpassed all previous records for the total number of jobs in the state, the number of Texans employed, and the overall size of the Texas labor force. These milestones signify not just quantitative increases, but also point to the qualitative strides the state is making in strengthening its economic foundation.
Earlier in the month, Governor Abbott also celebrated Texas winning the Governor's Cup for the thirteenth consecutive year. This cup is awarded to the state that leads in job-creating business location and expansion projects. This recognition further cements Texas's reputation as a powerhouse in economic development. Abbott proclaimed the state's dominance is all thanks to "our skilled and growing workforce and our business-friendly climate attract job-creating businesses in diverse industries from across the country and around the world." Truly, the Governor's Office emphasizes, Texas continues to strategically widen its embrace to welcome business expansion that serves the interests of its residents and economy alike.
