Early morning yesterday, a wrong-way driver on Interstate 5 in Thurston County caused a crash that killed three people near milepost 91, close to Scatter Creek. The Washington State Patrol reported the freeway was closed for about five hours while investigators worked at the scene, as per The Seattle Times.
Trooper John Dattilo stated that collision specialists were on site to help map and measure the scene, trying to determine which victims were in which vehicles. The incident occurred before 5:30 a.m.
FOX 13 Seattle confirmed the victims included one man and two women, though their identities were not immediately released.
A 21-year-old woman, whose sobriety was confirmed, collided with one of the vehicles after the crash, but she was unharmed. “I am saddened to announce that 3 people have died as a result of this collision,” a WSP spokesperson said, as reported by KOMO News.
The lanes have since reopened, and traffic has resumed.
