
On a quiet Saturday night in Twentynine Palms, an incident erupted into violence, leaving a 20-year-old woman with injuries and in desperate need of help; she took to the road, flagging down passing drivers for assistance, San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reports. Just before 9:40 p.m., on the 72600 Block of Two Mile Road, deputies from the Morongo Basin Station came upon the scene after the injured woman managed to alert motorists to her plight.
The victim, a local resident of the area, had several noticeable injuries. She revealed to deputies that a friend, identified later as John Henry Chavarria, a 49-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, had strangled her during an altercation, according to the same source. Chavarria was reportedly at a nearby residence on Two Mile Road when this incident took place; he has since been the focus of a manhunt by deputies but remains at large, having also been wanted on an active felony no-bail warrant related to being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Law enforcement undertook a thorough search of the residence where the attack was alleged to have occurred, but Chavarria was nowhere to be found, and consequently, a warrant for his arrest was issued for the suspected attempted murder. The Sheriff's office is urging anyone with information to step forward and contact Deputy C. Ranslem of the Morongo Basin Station directly or to report anonymously through the We-Tip Hotline, in a statement obtained by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
As the search for Chavarria continues, the community is on edge, and authorities are pressing for public assistance to locate the suspect. they're handling several leads. Community members are encouraged to come forward with any pertinent details that might bring closure to the victim.
