Tragedy struck on a windy afternoon in Las Cruces yesterday when two children were injured in a bounce house accident. According to KTSM, the incident occurred along the 4500 block of Red Mountain Circle, where high winds suddenly picked up the bounce house with the children inside. A 3-year-old and a 10-year-old suffered injuries, promptly raising concerns about the safety of such recreational equipment during adverse weather conditions.
Authorities have yet to release details on the severity of the children's injuries. However, a Las Cruces Police Department spokesman advised parents "to use caution when having kids on bouncing balloons during windy conditions.” The police consider the incident an accident, with no charges pending, as reported by KTSM.
Additional details from KVIA indicate that the intersection of Rinconada and Parkhill was the scene of the accident. Emergency services responded to the scene, where conditions were so hazardous that an airlift, initially requested for the victims, could not be carried out due to the persistent high winds.
Ambulance services had to quickly transport both children to Mountain View Medical Regional Center, with one being sent Code 3, indicating a serious level of injury, to UMC. The precise heights to which the tumultuous winds lifted the bouncy house have not been confirmed.
