Two minors have been taken into custody in South Carolina in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Cayden Morgan Casanova in Charlotte, as local news outlets have reported. Cayden was fatally shot on January 18 at an apartment complex on Hollow Creek Circle, and the suspects now face several charges including murder and attempted robbery, according to information from WBTV.

The arrests were made in Lee County, South Carolina where the minors were initially detained for unrelated warrants. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had been searching for them in relation to the Charlotte murder, with charges spanning attempted robbery, shooting into an occupied vehicle, felony conspiracy, and of course, murder. The accused are currently awaiting to be extradited back to Charlotte, as mentioned in an update from WCCB Charlotte.

Cayden Casanova was pronounced dead at the scene after the shooting incident, which occurred shortly after 4 p.m. in the 8700 block of Hollow Creek Circle. The Charlotte Observer detailed the joint effort by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents, and Lee County sheriff’s investigators to arrest the teenagers. The operation underlines a concerted effort between agencies to address the cross-state nature of crime.
