Two sailors, a man and a woman, were rescued from Puget Sound near Edmonds Marina over the weekend following an accident that required multiple agencies to respond. Both individuals were hospitalized and are now recovering, as reported by FOX 13 Seattle.
Two sailors were rescued by the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office marine unit last Saturday around 11:30 a.m. after being knocked overboard. The ferry Suquamish adjusted its route toward Possession Point to assist, which Washington State Ferries spokesperson Dana Warr said is a common practice. One sailor was reported in serious condition, while the other had non-life-threatening injuries. Both were wearing life jackets, as mentioned by HeraldNet.
Two sailors practicing safety drills in Puget Sound spent about 45 minutes in the cold water before being rescued. One of the victims, Ferguson, said, "And I remember sitting on the rail thinking there's no way I can get myself onto that other boat 'cause they were both bouncing in the waves like crazy. And one of the lovely guys on the sheriff's boat said, Ma'am, this is why I work out. I can lift you with one arm. And the next thing I knew I was on the floor of their boat." Ferguson added, “There are a lot of things I'm gonna do differently going forward, but I'm thanking God I wore my life jacket. If I hadn't been wearing my life jacket, I wouldn't be here. And I wish I had tightened it more. I wish I'd adjusted things. I wish I'd been more set up,” according to KOMO News.
