Two teenage girls sustained serious injuries following a collision involving their UTV and an SUV in St. Clair County, Michigan, over the weekend. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. last Saturday at the intersection of Berville Road and Masters Road in Berlin Township, as per the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office reported by The Detroit News. A 16-year-old from the township was operating the 2022 Kawasaki Mule UTV with a 15-year-old passenger from Armada when they collided with a Chevrolet Equinox driven by an 80-year-old man, accompanied by an 81-year-old woman.
According to authorities, the teenagers were ejected from the UTV and were swiftly transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital for medical attention. As reported by Audacy, the young driver allegedly failed to yield to the southbound SUV, leading to the crash. Though investigations are ongoing, the sheriff's office has not indicated excessive speed, alcohol, or drug use as contributing factors in the incident at this time.
Responses to the event involved Richmond/Lenox Emergency Services and the Berlin Township Fire Department, which helped address the situation following the collision, as mentioned by CBS Detroit. While specifics regarding the exact condition of the young girls were not disclosed, their injuries have been deemed serious; no other injuries stemming from this incident had been communicated.
The county's crash investigation team continues to investigate the exact cause of the crash. As the year progresses, statistics reveal a harsh reality, with Michigan State Police reporting over 100 deaths and approximately 560 serious injuries on Michigan roadways so far in 2025. The weight of these numbers haunts local communities, with parents grappling with the fragility of their loved ones as they navigate public roadways, reflecting on what preventative measures may create a safer path forward.
