Yesterday, the Knoxville Police Department apprehended two teenagers following reports of objects being hurled from a bridge overpass onto Interstate 640. The two young suspects, aged 16 and 17, are now facing charges of reckless endangerment after their alleged involvement in these hazardous incidents that initially brought officers to I-640 West at Bruhin Road, as per the Knoxville Police Department.
According to the same police report, the saga began when a tractor-trailer driver’s windshield was shattered by an object early Tuesday, though the suspects were not located at that time. The following day, multiple calls reported more objects dropped onto the interstate, striking several vehicles and once more endangering motorists. This time, Transportation Department cameras aided in identifying two individuals walking on the overpass around 2:30 a.m., leading officers to detain them shortly afterwards on Central Avenue Pike.
The apprehended minors confessed to dropping rocks onto vehicles; their actions, recorded by the vigilant lenses of TDOT's cameras, provided evidence enough for the police to hold them accountable for the rash and perilous game they played above speeding traffic. They were taken to the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center without incident, as no physical harm occurred to any drivers below the overpass during these events.
