The Union County Sheriff's Office reported a successful interception of a stolen vehicle earlier this week, thanks to the vigilance of their Patrol Division deputies and a helping hand from technology.
Deputies on patrol in the Town of Weddington were tipped off to a stolen truck by a FLOCK safety license plate camera, a real-time surveillance tool designed to aid law enforcement. Acting on the alert, the officers were able quickly to locate the vehicle and make an immediate traffic stop. The result: 27-year-old Gustavo Gonzalez found himself in cuffs, arrested without any drama unfolding on the streets.
An update on the Union County Sheriff's Office Facebook page detailed the incident, stating that Gonzalez was transported to the Union County Detention Center. There, he was charged with Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. It didn't end there for Gonzalez; while in custody, an outstanding arrest warrant for a parole violation was served, leading to him being held without bond.
In praising the deputies, Sheriff Cathey recognized the combination of sharp policing and technological advancements in maintaining community safety.
