Union County is in mourning over the loss of a respected member of their law enforcement community. The Union County Sheriff's Office announced the passing of K9 Santos, a dutiful companion and integral part of the county's Full Service K9 Team. Sheriff Eddie Cathey shared the news on social media, acknowledging the dog's decade-long service and the bond it formed with his handler, Brian Seaman.
Born in Holland and heeding commands in Dutch, Santos was specifically chosen by Seaman. The pair completed their training together in November 2011, at Enforcement K-9 Inc. in Burgaw, NC. As the Union County Sheriff's Office remarked, "K9 Santos was full patrol certified in Obedience, Apprehension, Handler Protection, Building & Open Area Searches, Narcotic Detection, Article Searches, and Tracking." It's evident that the canine's range of expertise left an indelible mark on the force.
The work of K9 Santos wasn't just a routine job; it was a life dedicated to ensuring the safety of Union County's residents. From detecting narcotics to tracking suspects, Santos's suite of skills was not just a testament to his training, but to the enduring spirit of canine partners in law enforcement. The Union County Sheriff's Office, struggling to articulate the depth of the loss, described him as "unwavering loyalty, dedication, and bravery."
Expressions of sympathy and tribute have poured in for the fallen K9, whose watchful presence was a familiar comfort to those he served. "Our deepest condolences go out to Brian Seaman and his family during this difficult time," the Union County Sheriff's Office said. Santos, who had been a reliable protector, partner, and member of the Union County community, will be missed deeply.
