
A 15-year-old student at Cuthbertson High School in Union County has been charged with felony after allegedly spreading threats against several local schools, leading to heightened security measures and a ripple effect of unease through the community, Union County officials explained the student was taken into custody following a swift investigation by local authorities after the threats emerged in text messages and social media.
The Union County Sheriff's Office reported receiving numerous overnight reports concerning the threats from worried parents and students, the detectives along with crime lab personnel managed to trace the origin of the menacing messages back to the teenager, who, upon interrogation, admitted the threats were a ploy to avoid attending school, as per QC News. In response to the threats, security was ramped up at the mentioned schools to ensure safety.
As the news of the arrest broke out, fellow students and parents expressed their concerns, with Cuthbertson freshman Mariah Joiner noting to WSOC-TV that attendance in her first block had drastically dropped to just eleven students, indicating widespread fear and disruption caused by the threats. Parents like Tom Ganxhi echoed this sentiment, stating, "Of course, I get concerned; every day I’m concerned," revealing the underlying anxiety that such incidents inject into the daily routine of sending children to school.
