The World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri, announced the death of Murphy, a 33-year-old rescued Bald Eagle, during severe weather on last Saturday. Murphy was known for his recovery and connection with visitors during his time at the sanctuary, as per KSDK.
Murphy's death remains under investigation, with the World Bird Sanctuary stating, "We are unable to determine if Murphy was spooked by something and hit his head while jumping off a perch or if wind and precipitation played a part in the injury," according to FOX2Now. The sanctuary confirmed that all other birds are in good health and have access to shelters within their outdoor aviaries for protection during storms.
Murphy, a bird at the World Bird Sanctuary, was found deceased last Saturday morning following severe storms the night before. "Murphy was found Saturday morning, when the staff at the sanctuary went to check on the animals after the severe storms the night before," stated STLtoday. He was found with a head injury, though the aviary was intact and no other birds were harmed. Murphy was known for once incubating a rock as if it were an egg. The sanctuary has not announced plans for a memorial.
