The scene in Pittsburgh is set for a bit of a cosmic seesaw with the weather in the coming week. We won't shake off the chill as the clouds begin to part ways today. According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, PA, high pressure is nudging, and dry conditions are promising until Tuesday. The mercury is expected to linger around 10 degrees below the usual for this time of year today, even as 850 mb temperatures – about a mile up for those without their heads in the clouds – are on the rise come late morning.
A warming trend will be ushered in as high pressure takes control through Monday. Temperatures should climb comfortably, with highs breaking the seasonal average by about 15 degrees come Tuesday. But the peace won't last long. The National Weather Service warns of a strong low pressure approaching the region Tuesday night, pouring rain on our parade and maybe throwing some wind gusts into the mix.
Midweek mayhem will set in by Wednesday, with the aforementioned low-pressure system barreling near Chicago. Pittsburghers can expect the faucet to open up, with rain expected to turn the daily grind into a soggy waltz. The winds will join the party, potentially causing minor tumult if they reach the surface. According to the National Weather Service, gusty winds with over 30 knots strikes in the afternoon are expected on Wednesday and Thursday, affecting everyone, including aviation operations.
