For those planning a weekend drive in Hamilton County, heads up: a key stretch of Interstate 75 is getting a facelift, which means lane closures that could throw a wrench in your mobility plans. As reported by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), damage-control operations are in full swing on the concrete slabs of the bustling I-75 South right before it kisses the interchange with State Route 153. This is all part of the larger I-75 at I-24 interchange improvements, now in its second phase.
Beginning at 9 p.m. tomorrow and continuing until 6 a.m. next Monday, the right lane of I-75 South will be closed from State Route 153 to the bridge spanning the CSX railroad. Commuters merging onto I-75 South from the SR 153 South ramp should exercise caution and be prepared to yield.
Northbound traffic will remain unaffected, with no closures impacting the flow of vehicles in that direction.
This temporary closure is necessary to allow the newly laid concrete to settle and undergo required strength tests. Once testing is complete, the lane will be reopened for normal traffic. However, unforeseen factors such as adverse weather conditions may lead to schedule adjustments. Motorists are advised to monitor the project's official website for any updates.
Significant delays are expected, and travelers should consider alternative routes or avoid the area during closure hours if possible. Those driving through the affected section should remain vigilant, follow posted signs, and adhere to all traffic regulations.
For real-time traffic updates, commuters can access the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.
