The weekend in Pierce County was marred by a series of incidents, with the sheriff's office responding to a range of emergencies from a search and rescue mission to acts of vandalism and arson. According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office blotter, each event posed unique challenges to the responding officers and emergency services.

The first of these incidents occurred on Sunday, when a woman and her dog fell into the Carbon River from the Fairfax Bridge in Carbonado. The woman was reportedly swept away by a strong current after a failed rescue attempt by a witness. Officials deployed drone technology to navigate the difficult terrain and swiftly locate the dog, which was found alive a quarter mile downstream. "Our SWIFT water rescue and Search and Rescue Rope techs responded to the site. Due to the weather, terrain, and darkness the search was suspended at 6:13pm," as detailed by the sheriff's office. The mission has now transitioned into a recovery operation.

That same evening, deputies addressed a vandalism incident at the Chevron gas station on 112th St. E and Canyon Road. A 23-year-old male, seemingly under the influence, rampaged through the store, resulting in an altercation with employees and patrons. "The suspect had been pepper sprayed by an employee and a customer was attempting to hold down the suspect until law enforcement arrival," said the sheriff’s office. Upon arrival, deputies arrested the individual, charging him with multiple offenses including Assault 4th Degree and Vandalism.

Another serious event unfolded at the Parkland Library in Spanaway, where a fire was deliberately set inside a bathroom. The fire had escalated beyond control, prompting the perpetrator, a woman who was "mad at life," to sound the fire alarm. Thankfully, the evacuation was efficient and no injuries were reported. "The female suspect who had set the fire admitted to the crime and called 911 on herself," according to the sheriff’s office report. She was apprehended and now faces charges including Arson to a Business and Endangering Life.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities, as they continue to ensure public safety amid unpredictable and sometimes dangerous situations. Pierce County residents have been reminded to "Be safe" through the sheriff’s office communication channels.
