The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and storm watch for the Western Mogollon Rim region. Snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected above 7,000 feet, while areas above 6,000 feet may receive 7 to 13 inches of snow, with winds gusting up to 50 mph. The advisory is in effect from 9 PM today to 11 AM tomorrow, and the storm watch will begin on Thursday afternoon and last through late Thursday night.
Heavy snowfall and reduced visibility are expected on Wednesday, impacting driving conditions. The Wednesday morning commute may be affected, along with those on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Strong winds on Thursday could bring down trees and power lines, causing further travel disruptions. Bridges and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous due to the anticipated weather conditions, as reported by the Coconino County.
Travelers are advised to avoid or delay travel on Thursday and Friday due to a winter storm watch. If travel is necessary, drivers should carry a winter storm kit with essential items, including tire chains, booster cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets, extra clothing, water, and a first aid kit. Road conditions and closures can change quickly, so travelers are encouraged to check az511.gov or dial 511 for updates, according to the Coconino County.
