In a move aimed at bolstering the sheriff's office, Fitzgerald brings to the table a robust background in public safety, cybersecurity, and government relations, as reported by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office. She comes off the back of key roles including having been an advisor to former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Director of Government Relations at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott.
Sheriff David Rhodes expressed optimism about the new hire, indicating her track record of performance at state government levels. According to an announcement from the YCSO's official website, the Sheriff touted Fitzgerald's previous success in securing funding, which played a critical role in enabling new hires and bolstering departments within the Sheriff's Office. Megan "will greatly add to our community and government relations," Sheriff Rhodes highlighted in the statement.
The responsibilities attached to Fitzgerald's role are set to be extensive. They range from enhancing agency relations with both the community and local governments in Yavapai County to formulating media communication strategies. The influence of the Public and Government Affairs Director is significant, given that Fitzgerald's predecessor was instrumental in acquiring substantial funds from the Arizona Legislature—a feat that paved the way for the introduction of new Human Trafficking detectives as well as hiring bonuses for deputies, detention officers, and dispatch personnel within the YCSO.
