An incident at the Yuba County Jail in early February highlighted ongoing efforts to address contraband. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department reported that an inmate, transferred for safety reasons, was found to be involved in smuggling weapons and drugs within the facility. During a routine check, Officer Fragoso discovered a note indicating potential illicit activities. According to a social media post from the Yuba County Sheriff's Department, Fragoso's investigation led to the recovery of a 5.5-inch homemade shank and significant information regarding weapon production among inmates.
Parallel to this, Officer Gomez engaged in a conversation with another concerned inmate, which led to a revelation about drug trafficking inside the jail. These accounts led to a systematic shakedown, and during this protocol, Officer Licea executed a pat-down to ultimately find fentanyl and methamphetamine ingeniously hidden inside an inmate's sock.
The collaborative efforts of Officers Fragoso, Gomez, and Licea helped prevent potential harm and highlighted issues in the facility's operational integrity. "The timely discovery and action taken by Officer Fragoso were instrumental in preventing further safety risks within the facility," the Yuba County Sheriff's Department detailed.
