Motorists in Oakland County brace yourselves for a smoother ride, but not without some short-term traffic snags. The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has announced that resurfacing work on 12 Mile Road, from Telegraph Road/US 24 to Northwestern Highway/M-10 in Southfield, is kicking off on April 7. During the construction, at least one lane in each direction will remain open, ensuring that local businesses and side streets stay accessible, CBS News Detroit reported.

Flanked by an average daily traffic of 23,500 vehicles, this stretch of 12 Mile Road is primed for several enhancements. Beyond the main event of stripping aged pavement for a fresh two-layer asphalt cover, the $5.1 million collaboration will patch up the curbs and gutters. Moreover, pedestrian crosswalks will be transformed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and updates are on the horizon for the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) bus stops as well as a modernization of traffic signals at various intersections, according to Road Commission for Oakland County.

The project's financial backbone is a mix of federal funding alongside contributions from the RCOC, the City of Southfield, and Oakland County general government through its Tri-Party Program. This investment underscores a commitment to infrastructure that underpins the everyday hustle of the local economy and residents' lives.
