Metropolitan Police have made headway in a series of burglaries and a robbery that rattled Northeast convenience stores last November. On April 4, 2025, 31-year-old James Lamont Patterson was arrested and is now facing charges for his alleged role in the incidents. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Patterson is accused of two counts of Burglary in the Second Degree and Robbery. The suspect, hailing from Northeast, was taken into custody following an investigation into the crimes.
The arrest stems from two burglaries and one robbery that occurred over two days in November 2024. Officers were first called to respond to an alarm around 2:58 a.m. on November 19 at a business located on South Dakota Avenue, where the suspects made a forceful entry and absconded with property. Just two days later, police were summoned to Benning Road, where employees of another establishment were confronted by suspects who took property and fled. Shortly after, a second business on 2nd Street experienced a similar fate, being broken into by suspects who also removed property before evading the authorities.
With cases under their belt, the diligent work of the MPD’s Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth District officers led to Patterson's arrest, providing a semblance of closure to affected business owners and the community. While Patterson faces charges in relation to these incidents, the MPD emphasizes that the investigation is ongoing. They encourage anyone with information to step forward, making it clear that they offer up to a $1,000 reward for details that lead to the arrest and indictment of any additional culprits.
The case numbers associated with these crimes are CCN: 2417968 for the South Dakota Avenue burglary, CCN: 24180819 for the Benning Road robbery, and CCN: 24180837 for the 2nd Street burglary.
