Starting Monday, April 28, at the eager hour of 7:00 a.m., LA 13 Northbound is slimming down to one lane from south frontage road (VFW Drive) right up to the doorstep of I-10, and this isn't just a one-day affair—the lane reduction is set to span over two weeks, providing Mother Nature plays nice, that is.
The reason for this roadway diet, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), is to give crews the room they need to build a new turn lane, all in the name of progress and better traffic flow. A detour route isn't on the menu, but emergency vehicles still get the VIP treatment, though they might hit some snags along the way, nothing's getting in the way of their path.
Drivers should expect traffic delays, as there’s no official detour around the construction. The DOTD is urging everyone to stay alert, slow down, and watch out for workers and equipment in the area.
This lane closure is part of a larger project to improve traffic flow by adding a turn lane, which should help ease congestion in the long run. In the meantime, expect some delays. The DOTD thanks drivers for their patience and reminds everyone to drive carefully and watch for work crews and equipment.
