Community cooperation with the Akron Police Department has led to identifying a suspect in a felony theft case following an appeal for public assistance on social media. According to an update from the Akron Police Department, a warrant for felony theft has been signed, a development stemming from the influx of tips provided by the community.
The case involves an unnamed individual who, on March 16, is accused of stealing four rolls of lottery tickets from the Damak Mini Mart on East Tallmadge Avenue. The tickets were valued at $1,500. After the theft, which occurred around 9:30 a.m., the suspect reportedly fled on foot. The Akron Police Department initially took to Facebook to solicit information from the public that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect.
In their social media post, the Akron Police emphasized the various channels through which individuals could submit tips, including contact with Detective Sgt. M. Joyner, the APD Tip Line, and the Summit County Crimestoppers, Inc. For added convenience and anonymity, the department provided options for text tips and an app for reporting information.
Acknowledging the role of the public's vigilance, the Akron Police Department extended thanks to everyone who provided leads. When the suspect was identified, they reiterated the importance of not approaching the individual and the instructions to call 911 if the suspect is seen. It is a testament to the community's engagement with local law enforcement and the effectiveness of cooperative crime prevention endeavors.
