Atlanta residents in two separate neighborhoods were awakened by the distressing glow of nearby fires early yesterday morning, as fire crews scrambled to deal with the emergencies. The first incident, as reported by FOX 5, occurred in a triplex on North Avenue in northwest Atlanta. Flames were visible shooting from the back of the building when crews arrived shortly after their 6 a.m. dispatch. All residents managed to quickly and safely evacuate, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, which resulted in damage from smoke, fire, and water. To the relief of many, the neighboring homes were not affected.
The other fire ignited before dawn at a northeast Atlanta apartment complex. According to Atlanta News First, this fire was contained to the building's attached parking garage and did not spread to the residential units. Despite the dread-inspiring damage to three vehicles and a motorcycle, no one was harmed.
Resident Alonzo Davis shared his close call with FOX 5, reminiscing about how a neighbor's pounding on his door had possibly saved lives. "Had it not been for him, we'd probably be inside burning up," he said. Meanwhile, the apartment complex off Morosgo Drive is equipped with surveillance and authorities are going to thoroughly review this footage as they probe into the cause of the fire.
Fire investigations are now actively underway to determine the origins of each incident. The unsettling proximity of the two fires has not been suggested as being linked, but as crews work to piece together the events leading up to these early morning scares, the public is urged to contribute any helpful information. Residents can reach out to Atlanta Fire & Rescue for the North Avenue incident, while the details regarding the northeast Atlanta complex remain under the investigation of arson experts.
