
Early Saturday morning, a man was found dead with serious injuries in North Austin, leading the Austin Police Department (APD) into what has now been declared a homicide investigation. According to KENS5, the incident took place on North Lamar Boulevard near Parmer Lane and Interstate 35, where officers responded to an urgent welfare check call around 4:40 a.m.
Upon their arrival, the officers discovered the man on the ground, showing signs of "obvious trauma." Medics from Austin-Travis County EMS attempted to save the man’s life, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. This marks the city's 14th homicide of the year, with investigating officers actively looking for video and any information that could assist in solving the case. Police believe this was an isolated incident and indicated there is no danger to the public,
At the crime scene, local business owner Sonny Le was caught off guard by the morning’s grim spectacle. "When I came to work, I saw a lot of police and, you know, the medical examiner and the corner around-blocking the traffic," Sonny Le told FOX 7 Austin in a statement that captures the somber disruption in a neighborhood not known for violent occurrences.
The identity of the victim and the suspect, who remain unknown, as are the precise details of the fatal injuries that the victim sustained. "As of right now, investigators are currently interviewing witnesses, they're canvassing the crime scene, they're looking at footage to try to associate this with some type of suspect," David Lewis told Fox 7 Austin, reflecting the ongoing work by APD to gather vital details.
