The Austin Police Department (APD) is turning to the community for help in the chase to identify a suspect behind a robbery that shook the stillness of early morning on April 2. According to a statement, around 2:53 a.m., an individual was aggressively assaulted and robbed in the 3100 block of E. SH 71 SVRD EB. The unidentified assailant was reported to have struck the victim, a battle that left her on the ground, her possessions stripped from her.
Clad in a black shirt, durag, and pants, witnesses last saw the suspect, backing the stark contrast of the night, described as a Black male, estimated to be about 40 years of age, standing at 5’7, and weighing around 200 lbs. A distinct yellow construction glove adorned one hand, while a red and black knit cap and red athletic shoes marked additional details captured by those who watched the crime unravel.
Details and photographs of the suspect are being disseminated, with the hope that citizens might cast light on this darkness that has fallen over the community. The APD statement released on April 18th indicates that anyone harboring knowledge or bearing witness to the incident is encouraged to reach out to the APD Robbery unit directly at 512-974-5092. Ensuring confidentiality, Alpha tips might also be filtered through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, where identities are shrouded in secrecy.
Navigating the currents of crime, the APD avers that a bounty of up to $1,000 lies in wait for information that not just whispers but leads to the clasp of handcuffs around the culprit's wrists. As Austin's streets pulse and jive with the daylights of everyday bustle, the APD persists in its appeal, a grim reminder of the fractures in our communal window displayed in the stark light of this assault.
