A Baltimore man has received a federal prison sentence for gun possession charges. In an announcement by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland, it was revealed that 39-year-old Robert Jackson was sentenced to 54 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release, for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a prohibited person. U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Maddox handed down the sentence after Jackson's conviction on these federal charges.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office press release, the incident leading to Jackson's arrest unfolded on January 26, 2024, when a Baltimore City Police Department detective observed a hand-to-hand gun exchange through a Citi Watch Camera on Milton Avenue. The detective watched as Jackson, wearing a hoodie, handed a tan handgun to his co-defendant, Derek Harvey, who concealed the firearm in his waistband. Both men were apprehended shortly thereafter and found to be prohibited from possessing the weapon and ammunition due to prior convictions.
Special Agent in Charge Toni M. Crosby of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was cited alongside the collaboration with the Baltimore City Police Department as pivotal to the case's resolution. The ATF's involvement underscores the inter-agency cooperation critical to addressing firearm offenses in the city. Derek Harvey, the co-defendant in the case, has entered a guilty plea and awaits his sentencing, set for May 8.
