A tragic fire swept through a Battle Creek home on Monday afternoon, leading to the death of several pets, with firefighters able to save one of the dogs, as reported by various local news outlets. The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance were dispatched to the scene at 20 Everett Ave. soon after 3 p.m., facing a blaze with significant property and contents damage, WOODTV detailed in their coverage.
Upon arrival, smoke was seen emanating from the second floor, but the inferno had ignited on the first floor. "The crew forced entry into the home and located the fire on the first floor and it was quickly extinguished," the fire department stated. While the house was occupied at the time of the fire, fortunately, no human injuries were reported. Yet, several of the family's pets could not be rescued, with one canine being the sole survivor amongst them after resuscitation efforts by the first responders, according to WKZO.
The economic toll of the disaster is significant, with the fire department estimating approximately $150,000 worth of damage to the property and roughly $80,000 in lost contents, indicating a substantial financial setback for the homeowners.
