Bay Area residents in need of legal guidance have a resource-rich opportunity to tap into on May 2nd. Anoka County is hosting a Law Day event at the Anoka County Government Center and courthouse, offering an array of free legal advice and clinics for the public. For those wrestling with criminal records, family law concerns, housing law, driver's license issues, or unpaid fines, this day-long event may prove essential.
From 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Anoka County Government Center will be the hub for free legal clinics and consultations. According to a recent release on the county's official website, one focal point of the day is the Expungement Clinic, where individuals can seek court assistance to seal a court record. Walk-ins are welcomed in rooms 710 and 715 for those seeking expungement. Also available is a Family Law Clinic providing 45-minute one-on-one sessions with attorneys. Interested parties are encouraged to call in advance to secure a spot at 763-760-6679.
Housing issues can be particularly challenging to navigate, which is why a Housing Clinic will be set up to handle matters ranging from evictions to security deposits. This clinic aids residents with lockouts, getting belongings back, and even eviction expungements. Scheduled appointments will take place in the government center courthouse; attendees should check in outside courtroom 240.
Driving legally is often critical for employment and everyday life, and those with driver's license problems can find assistance at the Driver's License Clinic. The event organizers note that only limited appointments will last until 2:30 p.m., encouraging early contact to ensure participation. Similar to the Driver's License Clinic, an Unpaid Fine Clinic is targeted at helping individuals square away outstanding fines. These meetings will also be held on the courthouse's fourth floor, with appointment scheduling available at 763-760-6679.
Volunteerism is at the heart of Law Day, and Anoka County is reaching out to Minnesota's licensed attorneys to step up and offer their expertise at the event. Those interested in contributing to their community can connect with the Anoka County Law Library at 763-324-5560 to volunteer.
