In a move to promote sustainable energy, Bloomington has launched a Renewable Energy Challenge, encouraging local homeowners, renters, and businesses to make a green transition during Earth Month. According to an announcement from the city, the program is open to any Bloomington resident or business with an Xcel Energy electric account, simplifying the switch to renewable sources like wind and solar without the hassle of purchasing or installing equipment.
For those interested in joining the challenge, the process is straightforward: sign up for Renewable Connect Flex®, and select how much of your electricity you want to come from renewables, the options range from a portion to a full 100% and with just a minimal increase in the monthly bill, between $1 and $10, depending on the level of commitment you're ready for, you're effectively voting with your dollar for a cleaner future.
By pushing for 30 signups by the end of April, Bloomington aims to create a collective impact that extends beyond individual action.
The choice to opt-in comes with the promise of no maintenance or additional costs outside of the monthly fee and it's an investment in local energy infrastructure, which not only promotes sustainability but can also foster job creation within the realm of renewable energy development, a sector that certainly requires more skilled workers.
