Bloomington is stepping up its game with a series of activities to promote organic recycling throughout May, coinciding with International Compost Awareness Week. The city is inviting residents to participate in several events, including a unique twist with a BINGO game aimed at encouraging sustainable practices. Participants stand to gain not just knowledge but also the possibility of being spotlighted as an "Earth Action Hero" in the City's newsletter. Interested parties can obtain their BINGO card by visiting the city's challenge page at the City of Bloomington's website.
As part of the challenge, on Saturday, May 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., those who have emboldened their commitment to organic recycling can pick up to three bags of compost at the Western Maintenance Facility for free. Residents must RSVP by May 7 to secure their compost. Detailed information and the reservation option are available through the same challenge webpage. This initiative is set to not only boost sustainability but also to tangibly reward citizens for their green contributions.
Bloomington is also providing educational opportunities with two separate "Organics 101" events. The first is a virtual lunch-and-learn scheduled for May 2, and for those who prefer face-to-face interaction, an in-person workshop on May 13 is on the calendar. These sessions are designed to tackle any questions homeowners may have about organic recycling, from the basics to more nuanced inquiries. Further details about these educational opportunities, along with RSVP options are available on the challenge's website.
