Residents of Bloomington have a day of exploration and engagement to look forward to as two of the city’s public safety departments host open houses on the same day. According to an announcement shared by the City of Bloomington, the Public Works and Bloomington Police Department are welcoming the community to get a closer look at their operations on Saturday, May 17.
Attendees can kick off their morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Public Works facility located at 1700 W. 98th St. An invitation on the city’s website promises an "insider’s look at equipment and facilities," introducing community members to the team responsible for maintaining the city’s infrastructure. The event, free and open to all ages, features equipment rides, hands-on demonstrations, interactive displays, and of course, snacks and prizes to add a little extra fun to the mix.
Later in the day, the action moves to the Bloomington Police Department, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road. During their open house, the police will showcase specialized units such as the Emergency Response Unit, Bomb Squad, Drone Unit, and K9 Unit. The department tours offer a behind-the-scenes glance at police work, and representatives will be available for discussions with visitors. To complement the informative displays, attendees can enjoy food trucks and games, providing an engaging backdrop for community-police interaction.
