Passengers aboard Allegiant flight 2006 breathed a collective sigh of relief as they landed safely at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) following a bomb threat that led to an emergency evacuation in Florida. As per the report from FOX19, the plane touched down at CVG at around 10:28 a.m. yesterday, significantly ahead of its initially scheduled arrival time of 6:11 p.m. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri highlighted how the flight attendant's discovery of a "very explicit" bomb threat on a note led to the plane stopping and the swift evacuation of all passengers.
The tension quickly escalated when passengers on the Florida-bound flight were compelled to deplane at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport after the threat was found. The flight initially had Florida in its sights, but the discovery prompted everyone to exit the aircraft, leaving luggage and personal items behind, as reported by Spectrum News. Allegiant released a statement explaining the delay and assuring that "all decisions were made with the safety of our passengers and crew members in mind," FOX19 obtained.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office ensured the airport was closed for a thorough investigation, as indicated by WLWT. With the deployment of bomb-sniffing dogs, the authorities confirmed the absence of any explosives and declared that there was no immediate threat to the public. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. The scenario led to a brief suspension of the airport's operations while the investigation was ongoing.
Passengers were finally allowed to re-board the aircraft around 8:30 p.m., as mentioned by FOX19. As an acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused, Allegiant Air is offering discommoded travelers a compensation package consisting of $200 in cash through Paynuver, and $100 off vouchers for future travel. This gesture is a small consolation for those who experienced the unwarranted upheaval of their travel plans. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities yet to identify a suspect.
