Boulder County residents who are tidying up their yards this spring have some good news coming their way. According to Boulder County, the Community Forestry Sort Yard program is preparing to open for the 2025 season in May. This service offers free log and slash disposal and will be available to all county residents.
Residents near Nederland will have access to the Nederland Sort Yard located at 291 Ridge Road, which will start operations on Wednesday, April 30, and will run through Saturday, November 15. The yard will be open from Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., making it easier for locals to drop off tree waste without having to adjust their weekday schedules significantly. The Meeker Park Sort Yard, at 8200 Hwy 7 in Allenspark, will begin to accept drop-offs on Wednesday, May 7, with the season ending Saturday, November 1, operating on the same weekly schedule.
Residents are reminded that despite the convenience, the sorting yards will observe closure on specific holidays. "Both sort yards will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday and Friday, July 4, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday," as per Boulder County. Moreover, operations might be intermittently disrupted due to weather, staffing, and administrative requirements. These disruptions will be communicated through the appropriate channels to ensure residents are kept informed.
Items accepted at the sort yards include tree branches, logs, and various yard waste like grass and leaves, provided that they are packed in brown paper yard bags. To better serve the community, the county asks that residents prepare their materials according to the guidelines posted on its webpage. For additional details about what is accepted and how to prepare materials, Wayne Harrington can be reached at [email protected] or by calling 303-678-6368.
