It's time for Boulder's seasoned anglers to shine once again as Boulder County Parks & Open Space is all set to host its annual Senior Fish-off on Friday, April 25. Anglers 65 and older will have the chance to not just catch some fish but also to bag prizes in categories such as heaviest rainbow trout and best fishing hat. As reported by Boulder County, the event promises a morning filled with fishing fun at the Wally Toevs Pond.
Participants looking to possibly reel in the big one will be pleased to find out that the pond has been freshly stocked with rainbow trout, upping the competition stakes. And to quickly catch the limit, better ready your fishing gear for an event that's always part of the local senior community's calendar. No registration is required, but feel free to sign up if you want to get updates on the weather or possible cancellations. Award prizes, as well as the fish fry, where one can celebrate the day's catch, are slated post-contest.
The fish-off starts at the crack of dawn at 6:30 a.m. and wraps up around 10 a.m., and it's taking place at the scenic Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat located at 3893 N. 75th St. The county has made sure the event is accessible, including a wheelchair-accessible fishing pier, to ensure everyone can enjoy the day.
However, before you rush out to join the festivities, don't forget to bring along your valid 2025 Colorado fishing license. And to keep things on the up and up, anglers must sign in and are not allowed to begin fishing before the official start time. Both live bait and artificial flies or lures are permitted, but remember to bring your fishing gear, as none will be provided on-site.
