Residents of Carrollton and the surrounding North Texas area are rolling up their sleeves to take on a community challenge, and it's all about keeping their environment pristine. Carrollton is participating in the Spring 2025 North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge, organized by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), which pits local municipalities against each other in a friendly competition that seeks to find out which community can pick up the most litter. Everyone is encouraged to join the effort before the challenge wraps up on May 31, as reported by the City of Carrollton's recent announcement.
Thus far, the city has seen a motivated turnout, with 88 volunteers clearing 160 trash bags since the beginning of March. To directly participate in this event, the city is hosting the Spring Community Cleanup on May 17 at Greenbelt Area 3. The event promises a chance to swiftly contribute and simultaneously enjoy the outdoors, beginning at 8 a.m. and finishing by 11 a.m.
For those unable to attend the organized event, Carrollton is offering alternative volunteer opportunities, which can be found via their stormwater webpage. Individuals or groups can fill out an interest survey or call to arrange a cleanup time and location that suits them. The city ensures that they will provide all necessary materials, and volunteers only need to report post-cleanup on where to pick up the collected debris.
Moreover, Carrollton presents its Adopt-A-Spot program for those seeking to combat litter more permanently in their locales. By adopting a piece of the city, such as creeks, parks, or other designated areas, residents agree to help keep it clean through at least quarterly litter pickups over a two-year commitment. Interested parties can inquire further by contacting Carrollton Environmental Services directly via phone or email for information on how to become involved.
