In a significant seizure at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers confiscated over $90,000 in unreported currency. On Sunday, as part of their thorough inspection process, CBP agents referred a 2023 F-150, towing a 2002 Ford Explorer, for a secondary inspection at the Camino Real International Bridge.

During their inspection, officers found $90,588 in the vehicles. The majority of the money was discovered in a duffle bag inside the F-150, with additional amounts concealed in a ketchup bottle and a coffee can within the Ford Explorer. According to the CBP report, the seizure is part of the agency's ongoing border security operations.

Following the operation, both the currency and the vehicles were seized by CBP. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the large sum of undeclared currency. While carrying more than $10,000 is not illegal, individuals are required by federal law to declare amounts exceeding this threshold to a CBP officer when entering or exiting the United States. Failure to do so, especially if intended to avoid reporting, can result in the seizure of the assets and potential arrest. The individuals involved now face the process of proving the legitimacy of the money’s source and intended use in order to possibly reclaim it.
