U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge recently seized methamphetamine worth around $14.6 million. The drugs were found last Friday in a tractor-trailer that was referred for secondary inspection while attempting to enter the U.S. from Mexico. The methamphetamine was hidden within a shipment of fresh produce, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

A tractor-trailer carrying fresh bell peppers and cucumbers was stopped at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility. Using inspection equipment and a canine team, officers found 300 packages of suspected methamphetamine weighing about 1,635.56 pounds hidden in the trailer, as reported by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry seized narcotics and the vehicle used in a smuggling attempt. Port Director Carlos Rodriguez stated, "Our CBP officers continue to use all tools and resources to safeguard our borders by preventing these harmful narcotics from reaching America’s streets." The seizure led to a criminal investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents. The drugs were detected by customs officers using technology and trained canines. The investigation is ongoing, and additional details may be released as it develops.
