U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge intercepted a drug shipment on Monday, seizing methamphetamine worth more than one million dollars. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to prevent illegal drugs from entering the country.
During a routine inspection, officers selected a 65-year-old Mexican citizen for a secondary check. The individual was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van, which initially appeared unremarkable. However, officers conducted a more detailed inspection, uncovering 28 packages hidden in the driver’s personal belongings. These packages contained a total of 115.52 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, according to a statement from CBP.
Port Director Alberto Flores emphasized the significance of this drug bust, saying, “This drug bust is a prime example of the efficient targeting strategies utilized in the passenger environment to help combat the flow of dangerous narcotics seeping into our communities,” in a statement obtained by the CBP.
The seizure of methamphetamine, valued at $1,062,252, led to the arrest of the driver, who is facing charges. Homeland Security Investigations has taken over the case, and the vehicle involved has been seized.
