Charlotte authorities have made a breakthrough in a homicide case that resulted in the tragic death of 25-year-old Jose Alexander Lara Hernandez. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified 22-year-old Danny Cardoza-Lara as the prime suspect, and he faces charges including Murder and Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.
Cardoza-Lara's capture on Monday was a coordinated effort involving CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and the Alexandria Police Department, where he was arrested without incident but it is not clear yet what could have sparked such violence or the relationship between the suspect and the victim. Following his arrest, CMPD homicide detectives traveled to Alexandria, Virginia, to interview the suspect, a process that is often painstaking and critical for piecing together the circumstances of that fateful day.
Legal proceedings are now set in motion as Lara-Cardoza awaits extradition back to Charlotte, North Carolina. This crucial step will bring him before the courts to answer for the charges, and in time, offer some semblance of closure to the family and friends of Mr. Hernandez, who have been dealing with the unfathomable loss of their loved one.
