Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred in the bustling heart of the city's Central Division over the weekend. According to the CMPD, the incident took place on East Trade Street, where a person suffered fatal gunshot wounds last night.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m. yesterday, officers were summoned to the 300 block of E. Trade St. in response to reports of an assault involving a weapon. Upon reaching, they found the victim had been shot. With life-threatening injuries, the victim was quickly transported to a local hospital and tragically succumbed there. The identity of the victim is still shrouded by the ongoing investigation.
Members of the Homicide Unit descended upon the scene, meticulously working alongside Crime Scene Search to gather the shards of physical evidence. In a press statement released by the CMPD, the presence of various units was noted, including representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD), and MEDIC, all joining forces to handle the fallout of this violent act.
The CMPD has urged the community to come forward with any information by either talking directly to a Homicide Unit detective at 704-432-TIPS or contacting Charlotte Crime Stoppers anonymously at 704-334-1600. Detective Grazier-Zerbarini, leading the charge into these dimly lit corridors of justice, hopes to illuminate the truth behind the night's grim events.
