In a recent crackdown on illegal gambling operations, Charlotte authorities carried out a raid on Star's Arcade, situated on Brookshire Boulevard, confiscating over $132,000 in cash. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), leveraging the might of their Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Unit and further assisted by their SWAT team and patrol divisions, stormed the arcade on Wednesday last week. This operation marked the culmination of investigations that kicked off in late 2024.
Star's Arcade, reportedly operating east of Interstate 85 and just south of West Brookshire Freeway, was housing 136 illegal gaming machines, flouting North Carolina's gambling statutes, as WCNC Charlotte reported. CMPD's discovery inside the gaming establishment not only included the unlawful gaming stations but also a mix of firearms and drugs - the spoils of their illicit enterprise.
Besides the gaming equipment, law enforcement unearthed an AR-15 rifle among four firearms and approximately 36 grams of what is suspected to be marijuana, as asserted by QC News.
The monetary findings amounted to exactly $132,077. Yet, the illegality extended beyond just the gambling; it was reported by WYFF 4 that the establishment employed unlicensed individuals as armed security guards, three of whom were arrested during the raid.
Further to the gaming hardware and drugs, the CMPD uncovered two 9mm handguns, one .40 caliber handgun, and the aforementioned AR-15 rifle. Following the raid, alongside the arrest of the armed guards, two customers found themselves on the receiving end of misdemeanor gaming violation citations. Criminal charges are said to be looming over the owners and managers of the establishment, closing the net on the entirety of the enterprise's illegal activities.
