Charlotte's bustling Uptown will be even livelier this weekend with a diverse array of events set to draw crowds from near and far. The Lovin' Life Music Festival, in its second year, promises a lineup that spans from local talent to major names like Weezer and Gwen Stefani. These musical acts are not the only draws, however, as the area will also be hosting a Kendrick Lamar and SZA concert, a Knights game, and the ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship, ensuring there's something for everyone.
Mayor Vi Lyles has touted the weekend's events as evidence that "Charlotte has become a true destination for music, sports and culture," during a press conference this past Monday. Attendees looking forward to any of these events should be aware of the extensive preparations the city is undertaking. In particular, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is ramping up its presence for the weekend. Streets will start closing today at 9 a.m., impacting several blocks including portions of Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Streets, between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks, and parts of Brevard and Caldwell Streets. These details were obtained from the City of Charlotte news release.
According to the same source, CMPD Deputy Chief Jacquelyn Bryley has encouraged attendees to approach officers for any help or to report any issues during the events. A dispatcher specifically assigned to the festival will also be present to aid with any concerns. The CMPD is aiming to have streets reopened before rush hour next Tuesday.
For those concerned about transportation, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has planned to increase blue line train services to accommodate the influx of passengers. CATS is offering an unlimited three-day pass available for purchase until tomorrow for $12, after which the price will increase to $15 until the end of sales. Passes can be secured through the CATS-Pass app. And not foregetting, express buses will be shuttling eventgoers from the venue to the University City Boulevard, JW Clay, and I-485 park and rides each night.
But if you're new in town, or the transit system seems daunting, CATS has a friendly face ready to help. Bright yellow-shirted CATS Travel Ambassadors will be posted at various stations, ready to assist passengers with any travel-related questions. More information can be found on the CATS Lovin' Life Music Fest page. Charlotte is setting the stage for a memorable weekend, whether you're there for the hits, homeruns, or high-sticking action.
