In Charlotte, a routine traffic stop escalated quickly into a narcotics arrest last week. 61-year-old Johnnie Adams was pulled over by a deputy of the Baker Squad, a unit within the Union County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) Patrol Division, for speeding and failing to stay within his lane. The traffic violations seemed rather mundane, but they led to an investigation that uncovered something more alarming.

During the stop, signs of narcotics possession and use in the vehicle reportedly became evident to the deputy. What might have simply been a penalty for a traffic infraction, turned into a much larger operation after the officers decided to conduct a thorough search. The search resulted in the discovery of over 70 grams of crack cocaine, according to a news release from the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Adams now faces two counts of felony Trafficking in Cocaine and was processed at the Union County Detention Center. Initially placed under a $50,000 secured bond, reports confirm that Adams is no longer behind bars, having posted bond. The UCSO emphasizes that this arrest is part of their ongoing efforts to “keep our communities safe from dangerous and deadly narcotics,” while holding those who traffick drugs accountable.
