Chatham County is set to bolster local nonprofit recreation programs with a fresh round of grant funding, inviting established agencies to apply. The Chatham County Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will open grant applications on Friday, with the process set to support and enrich community engagement in recreational activities.
The available grants will be scored based on alignment with the county's master plan for parks and recreation, along with departmental goals and objectives. Applicants said to need to have a minimum of three years in service to be considered—a clear message that the focus is on strengthening existing structures rather than nurturing new entities.
According to a news release from Chatham County's Parks & Recreation, the Recreation Advisory Committee will recommend which projects should receive funding. Local agencies that meet the prescribed criteria and complete the necessary certification can apply through Chatham County’s grant software, accessed via the county’s website.
Critical for those looking to be at the submission's forefront, the application window is constrained to a month, with a May 9 deadline. Following the application deadline, announcements related to program and service funding are scheduled to be made in July. With another recreation grant cycle, Chatham County aims to continue uplifting endeavors like the work of the Pittsboro Skate Park—which was a beneficiary in the previous year.
All inquiries about the grant process or application specifics can be directed to Jenny Clark at the Chatham County Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department. Prospective applicants and the public alike have been encouraged by the department to reach out either through email at [email protected] or by phone at (919) 545-8551 for more information.
