In an amusing turn for local law enforcement, the Commerce City Police Department (CCPD) announced the playful addition of a "Feline Unit" to their ranks, joining the already celebrated K9 Unit featuring canines Holland and Delta. The lighthearted social media post was shared as a nod to April Fool's Day, introducing the public to their new, fictive "P.U.R.R." Police Undercover Rapid Response team starring fictional felines McClane and Sgt. Powell.
According to CCPD, "People have been so excited by the reemergence of the CCPD K9 Unit with K9’s Holland and Delta, we’ve decided to start up a Feline Unit as well." The department aimed quickly to capitalize on the delight and attention garnered by their canine officers, though it's clear they're not intending to train cats in law enforcement techniques. The tongue-in-cheek reveal included duties for McClane and Sgt. Powell, such as masterfully sitting on countertops and ignoring potential threats, is a jab at the infamous indifference of feline behavior.
The message from the Commerce City Police Department also humorously detailed the 'training' being undertaken by these supposed anti-apprehension and explosives-ignoring cats. "So far training is going well. They’ve mastered sitting on your countertops licking themselves while remaining completely indifferent to the presence of a threat," as per CCPD. The wry notion that 'training' for these cats involved such unimpressed and aloof behavior served as the punchline for this April Fool's prank.
The fictitious P.U.R.R. members McClane and Sgt. Powell was said to be tackling the skill of "knocking over your glass of water in disdain," adding to the parody of turning common and oft-lamented cat behaviors into tactical policing skills. The department ended their announcement with a playful acknowledgment of the jest, "We hope you're as pumped about Feline’s McClane and Sgt. Powell (and their adorable kitty tactical gear) as you are about K9’s Holland and Delta, and we also hope you come up with a more believable April Fool's Day prank than we did," as obtained by CCPD.
