Eastbound travelers on I-70 near Glenwood Springs are hitting a roadblock today due to a commercial vehicle accident that flipped over and shut down both lanes of traffic. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. near Mile Point 116, just a touch west of the Grand Avenue exit. For those navigating the area, local traffic can still access I-70 eastbound up to Exit 114 at West Glenwood.
As crews scramble to clear the scene, the CDOT has put detours into play for those needing to move east. Drivers headed in that direction should now plan to fully detour around the closure. The northern alternate route has travelers take Colorado Highway 13 in Rifle north to Craig, turn eastward on US Highway 40 to Steamboat Springs, and then choose to either take CO 131 south or continue on US 40 to rejoin I-70, as detailed by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
If a southern path is more favorable, eastbound motorists from Grand Junction have the option to use US 50/US 285 through Gunnison, and then carry forward to Denver or nearby areas. However, travelers should be aware that Cottonwood Pass on CO 306 is still closed for the season, making it a non-option for the detour. During this period of rerouting, CDOT urges drivers to use caution when navigating these alternate paths.
