An 11-year-old boy lost his life last night after falling into Cypress Creek in Spring, according to Harris County authorities. The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office first reported the incident, which prompted a search in the 3700 block of Cypresswood Drive. Multiple agencies, including deputies from the Harris County Sheriff's Office with their dive team, responded to quickly assist in the search efforts.

The child, whose identity has not been released, had been playing with a group of neighborhood children before the incident occurred. A 9-year-old, who had reportedly witnessed the event, informed the authorities that he saw the older boy jump into the water to aid him when he was in distress. While the younger child managed to get out safely, the 11-year-old did not resurface. According to a Click2Houston interview with Yesenia Villasana, a local resident, "Apparently they were playing ball so they came home from school and they were all they got together then they were playing ball and then all of a sudden ended up here."

Despite the extensive search efforts that continued into the night, an update arrived before 11 p.m. "It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that the search for the 11-year-old that fell into Cypress Creek has ended," said Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman in a social media statement reported by ABC13. Herman's office also confirmed the recovery of the child's body and his passing.

Speaking on the incident, Capt. S. Wilson of the Harris Co. Sheriff’s Office told Click2Houston, “This is a tragic event and our heartfelt condolences go out to everybody involved and the family." He added, "For the sake of the family, this is the only information we’re going to give at this time, please respect their privacy.” Authorities have not released additional information as their investigation continues.
