A traffic stop in Cumberland County led to the arrest of two individuals after law enforcement discovered both heroin and a stolen firearm in their possession, local authorities reported. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) conducted the stop on I-40 East early on a Wednesday morning, which resulted in Jerry Crandall and William Kirby being taken into custody and facing potential drug and gun charges.

According to WVLT, deputies initiated the traffic stop close to 2:30 a.m. for multiple lane violations. The driver and passenger were unable to provide valid driver's licenses or proof of insurance at the time. The CCSO deputies observed what they determined several indicators of potential criminal activity, which included the sight of ammunition in the vehicle.

During the search of the car, a glass pipe with residue and Narcan were found alongside the stolen gun from Knox County. 3B Media News reports that both Crandall and Kirby were found in possession of approximately 68 grams of a substance field-tested positive for heroin during the search. The reported quantities reflect both individuals' holdings, with Kirby having had about 43 grams on his person and Crandall hiding additional bags in his groin area.

"All evidence was photographed, logged, and secured at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office," according to 3B Media News. The narcotics seized have been submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for further analysis. Meanwhile, the recovered gun is awaiting verification before it can be returned to its rightful owner. After the arrests, the suspects were transported to Cumberland County Jail, where they await further proceedings.
